Meet Al Nuñez

dr n aboutAl Nuñez is a master of muscle therapy with over 38 years of experience handling the most challenging and “lost cause” cases since the beginning of his practice. He proudly graduated from the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic in December of 1982, magna cum laude. During his college training, he first became familiar with a non-forceful treatment method of spinal correction that would eventually lead to Al Nuñez developing the 3-Dimensional Muscle Therapy Technique (3-DMT) in 2000. 3-DMT is more than a technique; it is also a philosophy based on the observation that frightening or traumatic events in youth cause tension in the muscles that can become chronic. Chronic tension over time leads to chronic pain, joint degeneration, and distortion of the body.

Early in Al Nuñez‘s career, he noticed that when he worked on patients, they would feel better for a while, but often the same symptoms would return. He realized that he needed to do more than just treat these chronically tense muscles; he also needed to teach his patients how to help themselves loosen their muscles between sessions. He developed a muscle release technique called Pressure-Plus-Motion (PPM) that would break up the chronically tense muscles and lead to a resolution of the problem. Eventually, he began teaching these methods to his patients and wrote a self-help book in 1998 that patients could use as a guide to treat themselves. It is called How to Keep the Muscle Therapist Off Your Back!. He has since released a second book titled You Can’t Stand Up Straight If Your Insides Are Pulling You Down.

Al Nuñez’s many unique experiences and varied work history prior to becoming a muscle therapist have led to a perspective that looks at life and health from a new angle. He likes to say, “I may be good, but we are great!”—in other words, he only takes 50 percent credit when you get better. It takes both the patient and the practitioner working together to achieve victory over chronic pain and to restore health, vitality, vim, and vigor.

Al Nuñez has been involved in the community in many ways since the beginning of his practice. He is a member of the American and California Muscle Therapy Associations. He is a Life member of the Hollywood/Los Feliz Kiwanis Club for 35 years and a three-time past distinguished president. He has been a member of the La Crescenta Presbyterian Church since 1996 and has served as a deacon and an elder.

Continued education from 1978 to December 1982

SPECIALIZED TRAINING AND SEMINARS:
Since 2000 I developed, and now teach, 3-D Muscle Therapy (3-DMT). This technique involves manipulation of the structures of the body with no twisting, popping, or cracking. Many patients prefer this method that are uncomfortable with conventional manipulative techniques. In addition to the 3-DMT method, I incorporate a myofascial release method described below.

Since 1993 I have researched and developed a muscle manipulation technique known as Pressure-Plus-Motion (PPM). This is a unique method developed to relieve chronic tension based on balancing the tension between opposing muscle groups by applying pressure to the hyper-tense muscle while the muscle is taken repeatedly through a full range-of-motion. This is very effective when manipulation proves to be insufficient in providing long-term pain relief.

Printed Works:
In 1998 I wrote a book called “How To Keep The Chiropractor Off Your Back”. In this book I demonstrate to a patient how to use Pressure-Plus-Motion on themselves to help speed recovery and help adjustments last longer.

I also have a second book, titled “You Can’t Stand Up Straight If Your Insides Are Pulling You Down”.

About Alan Nuñez | Health Maximization

“My objective is to help my patients achieve balance in all areas of their lives. In addition to the known physical causes of pain, I have found that childhood traumas can lead to chronic tension, which is the cause of much chronic pain. The most productive way to restore health and alleviate pain is to address the problem in a well-paced series of sessions over a concentrated period of time. Patient’s treatments tend to be much longer than traditional methods, but my patients generally need far fewer sessions.”
