3-D Muscle Therapy

Many of you are familiar with muscle therapy and the beneficial role it plays in a well-rounded health care program. But perhaps you were not aware that there are many different muscle therapy methods. One that has been extremely successful—and the one I use in this office—is the 3-DMT (3-Dimensional Muscle Therapy) method of muscle therapy. 3-DMT is based on a technique developed over 80 years ago by Dr. Richard Van Rumpt, utilizing a leg reflex that can be used to analyze the entire body. The leg reflex reveals where there are fixations in the joints or muscle imbalances, which can cause nerve interference or muscle rigidity. These imbalances can lead to pain, dysfunction, and disability. Once an imbalance is diagnosed, a gentle corrective thrust is given to address the problem. Additionally, patients are instructed in specific home exercises to help speed recovery and maintain health. In this way, the 3-DMT practitioner works with the patient as a team to not only eliminate pain but to restore health.

The adjustment is unique in that no “twisting,” “popping,” or “cracking” is necessary to correct the spine. The patient simply lies flat on the table, either face up or down, as a gentle thrust is applied. In addition, Al Nuñez has developed a new myofascial release technique called Pressure-Plus-Motion (PPM) and has written a book including these techniques called How to Keep Muscle Therapists Off Your Back!. PPM is fantastic for relieving chronically tense muscles.

3-DMT is effective and works quickly.

3-DMT is effective for a variety of conditions, ranging from low back and neck pain to headaches and migraines, sports injuries, and even helping with the pain of hiatal hernia or GERD. Both acute and chronic cases are successfully treated. We help when no one else can.

3-DMT is so gentle and safe that X-rays are rarely necessary, except in cases of auto accidents, slip and fall injuries, or for insurance purposes.

The gentle adjusting of 3-DMT helps to eliminate the fear that some people have about muscle therapy. This gentle approach also allows me to treat a person immediately following an accident, leading to a more rapid and complete recovery.

How does one know when or if they need to see a muscle therapist?

As a general rule, if you have pain or a health problem that persists despite two to three days’ rest, you should come in for a consultation and examination. However, if you’ve been in an automobile accident or have had a slip and fall, you should come in immediately. Remember, the sooner muscle therapy is started, the sooner you will be back on your feet again!

Rest, Relaxation, and Sleep

  1. Set aside a special time each day for complete mental and physical relaxation. This is important in the restoration – as well as maintenance – of total health. Naps are encouraged! Do belly breathing during this time.
  2. When sitting, choose a chair that has adequate back support or place a small pillow in the middle of your back, and then sit straight. Avoid too soft, overstuffed chairs. Recliner chairs are acceptable but not to sleep in.
  3. Be sure to get plenty of sleep to allow your body to recuperate and repair. Sleep on a firm mattress to medium firm – not extra firm.
  4. Your pillow should support your head so that your neck vertebrae will be level with the rest of your spine.
  5. Sleep on your back or on your side with your legs flexed slightly, not drawn up tightly. Avoid sleeping on your stomach.
  6. Rise from bed by turning on your side and swinging your legs off the bed, then push yourself into a sitting position with your arms, thus minimizing the strain on your back.
  7. Do not sleep sitting in a chair or in cramped quarters especially while watching TV. Lie down in bed when it is time to sleep.
